Our services save you money and time, and there are other ways to do this as well. One of the best? Taking the right precautions to prevent these drain clogs from happening in the first place. Here are a few tips for the right steps to take.

Use Drains Properly

An unfortunate habit for some people, especially children, is misusing drains. Toilet, sink and shower drains are meant only for specific items, and putting other foreign objects down them is the quickest way to create clogs.

For toilets, only put approved toilet paper down the drain – avoid tissues, cotton balls, feminine products and any other objects. For sinks, especially those with garbage disposals, avoid all larger food particles and any fats or oils, which can harden and create clogging issues. Use a drain strainer in the sink to catch particles you don’t want in the garbage disposal.

Choose Natural Cleaners

If possible, use natural-based cleaners for any drain maintenance you do yourself. Heavier chemicals may do the same job, but over time, they can cause damage to pipes and drains. Natural cleaners avoid this, plus usually include positive bacteria to provide additional cleaning.

Hot Water is Your Friend

If you have common sink drain clogging issues, try pouring a bit of hot water down the drain after every significant dish cleanup. This will flush out grease and fat that can cause blockages.

In addition, perform periodic cleanings on your sink and shower drain. For the sink, you can use baking soda and vinegar. For the shower drain, fill the tub up about halfway with hot water and then pull the plug, allowing the water pressure to clean minor deposits from the drain.
